Workplace Democracy in Brazil

Submitted by Other Worlds on Mon, 01/11/2010 - 10:56

Here at Other Worlds, we're always interested in new ways to bring democratic practices and economic justice into the workplace.  Ricardo Semler, a Brazilian entrepreneur, has discovered that increasing worker control over his business is not only the right thing to do, it has also led to increased profits. Semler is the CEO of Semco SA, where he has intituted rules allowing workers to set their own salaries and hours, decide their productivity goals and select their own managers. His initiatives have raised productivity and profits, and led to an almost 0% turnover rate for his 3,000 employees.

You can see Semler talk about his theories on Karmatube, or by clicking on the video above.
